DEMAND FOR VRENNA'S SOUNDTRACK TO ALICE SURGES FOR HALLOWEEN

For the second year in a row, CHRIS VRENNA's dark soundtrack CD to American McGee's Alice (Electronic Arts) is seeing a surge in sales and demand for the Halloween season. The creepy and chilling original game soundtrack is suddenly hot again, even though the video game was released almost two years ago.

CHRIS VRENNA, the composer of the soundtrack, is best known as a former founding member of the band NINE INCH NAILS. Vrenna has also been a producer / collaborator / remixer for artists including U2, P.O.D., MARILYN MANSON, ROB ZOMBIE, COLD and WEEZER among others.

" I love video game soundtracks", says Vrenna, "They are incredibly challenging to compose, since you are basically making music that needs to be compelling enough for people to enjoy even after playing a game 1,000 times but also not be so out of control that it is distracting to the player."

Jeff Antebi of Kabuki Digital, the record label for Alice, says of the phenomenon "People who played the game are remembering the music and suddenly want the music for their haunted house or some other strange use I don't want to know about. It's looking like it will be a cult classic which would be unusual for a video game soundtrack, but it does seem to transcend the genre. It's a great word-of-mouth thing among people who are into haunting, dark music."

Vrenna is currently composing the soundtrack to an upcoming Inevitable Entertainment (inevitable.com) video game, but more details cannot be revealed until 2003. Additionally, Vrenna collaborated on a track with MESMER on the upcoming video game soundtrack for Toxic Grind (THQ).

The movie version of American McGee's Alice is currently in production with horror master WES CRAVEN at the helm (Dimension / Miramax).
